Memories from Graham Harding
(1961 - 1967)
Having only just come across this web site, it bought back
memories on seeing the advert in 1967 for "The GPO". Having
joined this said organisation it was most strange to find myself
working back on the schools data-comms link just prior to the recent
refurbishment. Its strange to think that in just 3 to 4 years
time I will have completed 40 years with the GPO and its
derivatives. Incidentally, I was introduced to this web site's
existence by another "old boy", one Bob Bierton who is the bass
player in the same band as me, (yes we're still gigging! ), and who
it seems has contributed photos to the site.
Doesn't time fly?

and Radio engineer.
Memories from Dave Solomon
I think it was in the summer of either 1957 or 1958 our year had
a school trip to the Lake District. As far as I can remember
it was for boys only (girls didn't do mountains then), it was for
several days but less than a week. We stayed at a large house
which catered for school parties near Lake Bassenthwaite.
Trips out included :-
- Rowing on Lake Bassenthwaite, jumping in and slowly drowning
because it was so cold.
- Carlisle Castle
- Climbing Skiddaw (931 metres) - gad it was tough Carruthers
- Hadrians Wall - the site of Mr Bambers famous "joke" whilst
touring the remains of a Roman fort i.e." Let's go over to the
bakehouse and loaf"
As there were no girls present (and even if there were, in those
days and at that age we only had a rough idea of what you could do
with them) any spare time was taken up with educational games of
pontoon or brag, and finding somewhere to have a crafty fag.
We also had a shopping trip to Keswick and I don't think the
place ever recovered.
That's about the extent of my memory, but I think a "good time"
was had by all, whoever she was.
Dave has now found the booklet produced by the school for the
trip and it is included here in the Pupil Memories [go]

Memories from Ian
McIlhiney (1967 - 1974)
I was a pupil from '67 to '74 and have been
reviewing this site. It's weird to look back. Although a
lot of what is on there is before my time, my school years were
very important and I can probably still recite the class roll
call.
I am really sad to see the Trinity buildings are being
demolished.
One of my memories is:-
The Abington Park Lake Survey
One of the very first times we were out of
school in term time was to survey the small lake at Abington
Park with Mr Winkworth. We were told to meet there and I
went off with a group of cyclists to the lake. Ian Smith
was one of the group he managed to come off his bike half way
down the big hill by the park damaging his bike and grazing his
leg. I remember the day as an 11year old as a great
adventure does anybody else remember this or what a great
teacher Form and maths teacher Mr Winkworth was?
