What Would Gunner Say?

At the reunion in 2005 Martin Verity asked Robin Westley what he thought that we would all do if Gunner had walked in to the reunion right then.  Certainly the places would have gone silent, and we would have all been shaking in our shoes once more, perhaps.  That made Robin think about what Gunner would have said and what he would have thought about his school being knocked down.  Robin Writes:

School,

                You may sit,

I am sorry to have to report that I recently heard some news of a most grave misdeed. When I was informed of it, I was asked if I had any comments.  Well, I had better not make any comments, otherwise I might use some unparliamentarily language!  It appears that all of the school buildings have now been demolished.  Now, I suppose those responsible believe I do not know their identities.  Well, of course I do know who they are, they are the same ones who fail to sing heartily at the annual carol concerts, the ones who think they do not need to wear their caps when travelling to and from school.  Well, here is my answer. The school will re-assemble in the hall this evening, after normal hours, in a standing position.  The school will so remain until the guilty come forward, whereupon they will make their way to outside my office, form an orderly line there, and await myself.

Subsequently, they will each duly be in receipt of six of the best. In future, anyone who demolishes the school will be dealt with in a similar manner.

Now, I know there are those amongst you who wish to delude yourselves with the thought that I no longer have the authority that I once had.  Well, my methods always worked in the past, they can still work now! (can't they?)

Sincerely,

F.C. Wright
