The
Sewing Circle
LAST
September it was decided to form a Sewing Circle for the senior girls of
the school. But, as there are few girls in the Sixth Form, it has now been
opened to the fifth-year girls, who have become very keen members. The
club meets on Wednesday evenings, from 4.10 to about 5.30, and is very
capably supervised by Mrs. Watson, who gives up her time to assist the
girls in their needlework.
The
work usually consists of dresses and skirts, which must be of a good
standard. A small sub is paid each week for the refreshments, and the use
of the equipment and cottons, etc.
We
hope the club will continue to flourish and that, as a result of these
evening classes, girls will become interested in making their own clothes
in the future.

THE
SCHOOL PLAY
- The Ghost Train
ON
the 17th, 18th and 19th November, 1960, the School ventured on its
largest production to date - Arnold Ridley's “The Ghost Train”. The
play was a great success, being shown to full houses, and earned
considerable praise for the high standard of acting, and the excellent
scenery and effects.
The
action of the play takes place in the dilapidated waiting-room of Fal
Vale railway station. The story is about a "ghost train" and
an unscrupulous gang of crooks who use the superstitious nature of the
waiting-room's occupants for their own ends.
The
play was very well produced by Mr. Bamber, who had excellent support
from his cast. Mr. Clarke, the Art Department, and the Amateur Dramatics
Workshop Society between them produced scenery and props which could
have graced any professional stage. For the lighting and very realistic
sound-effects, Mr. Guffogg and his assistants deserve our special
praise. But this was an
all-round effort and all those who in any way helped to make the play a
resounding success deserve the
School's gratitude.
